In this life-giving book, Paul Tripp offers parents much more than a to-do list. Feeling pressure to do everything 'right' and raise up 'good' children, it's easy to lose sight of our ultimate purpose as parents in the quest for practical tips and guaranteed formulas. I feel there were many 'don't do' points but very few 'do' points about how to be mindful of this grace while having to intervene on real fights, crying and disrespectful attitudes from our children. He kept giving examples and f what not to do - got it! I'd like to see some sample conversations of how to show this grace to a 4 yr old while still dealing with the many real challenges he presented in the book. Yet he stopped short of giving tangible examples of what that looks like in true life to talk with our kids about this grace while we do still have to provide guidelines and consequences for decisions our children make. Tripp continued to make the same point about grace - albeit a good one - over and over in each chapter. Only because the content was so compelling was I able to make it to the end of this recording.ĭisappointed: no application of principles to life All things considered it sounds like this book was recorded using the integrated microphone on a laptop by a 'friend' of the author for free as a favor. There is a loud background hiss and the acoustics of the room in which the book was recorded are evident and distracting. From a technical standpoint the recording is terrible too.

The timing and word emphasis is so random it sounds as though the narrator understands phonics, not not the actual meaning of the words he's reading. The narrator uses this breathy, melodramatic tone that made me want to laugh at first, but seven hours later I could barely survive to the end. On the other hand, accepting the subjectivity of personal taste, the narration of this book is solidly the worst I have ever experienced.

It is as essential to your presenting as Christ is to your salvation. This book contains a gospel message that every Christian parent MUST hear. The message is essential, the reading horrible.
